Welcome all to my blog! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you all are subscribed so you can get notified when there is new content posted. I will try and do a blog post once or twice a week. If you have scrolled around my website, you can see all the work I have done over the years. The people that I have had the opportunity to work with, and meet. Those prominent people were inspiring to meet when I got the chance to speak with them, and the goal for myself is to one day be on a level where when people see me, they’ll want to stop me, and say they had the pleasure of hearing what I had to say on a number of topics I have the ability to speak on.
Enough with the short spiel, my first blog post I wanted to talk about the importance of the month of September for me. September if you didn’t know is hydrocephalus awareness month. If you haven’t read my book just yet, this is a spoiler, but yes, I was born with the head condition hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is a condition that sometimes can go undetected at birth, as was the case with me. I was not diagnosed by doctors that I had it until the age sixteen! The only reason it was even discovered in my life was that was because it started to have an impact with severe headaches while I was playing football for the first time, (again check out my book on my page to read the full account of how it all went down.
Once I discovered all the ways hydrocephalus was affecting me, certain events in my life prior started making a whole lot more sense. To me it was so eye opening the things I had always had a hard time doing, be it my ongoing balance issues, difficulties catching fly balls in the outfield, walking in a straight line, etc, and having to just bite down and live with that being the way it was for my life. Even though I knew in my heart I was always gave it my best effort, somethings just gave me a lot of struggle, and it is a now forever ongoing battle in my life. There was always still something being in the way. Yes, that barrier was hydrocephalus. However, now I know what pitfalls hydrocephalus especially has for me. I do my best to work around them, but they have an impact every single day of my life, and as an advocate for hydrocephalus, and a person with it,
I take pride and responsibility in life to make others cognizant of the many ways my life might be different from others. This is something I have to live with. I have had it since birth! It’s crazy to think about because again even when I was unaware that I had it, there were so many signs that now I look back on, like if I or someone else had known I was living with hydrocephalus maybe there could have been other ways to help me growing up, besides the massive support I was already receiving from family and friends in my life. Please take time reading up the seriousness of this brain condition. In future post I will be discussing other specific issues hydrocephalus plays a part for now, but you’ll have to wait until next week for that post… Hope this was a good first read for those who took the time to read this, have a great day, and welcome to the world of Wesley Antoine Eggleston!
